German-Style Winter Markt Back in Birmingham for Second Year
European Food and Drinks, Holiday Greens, Home Decor and Live Entertainment in Shain Park

The second annual Winter Markt will be held in Birmingham’s Shain Park on Friday, December 2 from 3 – 9 p.m., Saturday, December 3 from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. and Sunday, December 4 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Shain Park will come alive with German style food and drinks, gift items, holiday greens, crafts, live reindeer, ice sculptures, warming stations, a Kinderhaus children’s activity area and live entertainment.

Attendees will also enjoy the opportunity to visit Birmingham’s popular Santa House (located in Shain Park at the corner of Merrill and Henrietta) where children can visit with Santa and give him their list. After seeing Santa, shoppers can climb aboard a quaint horse-drawn carriage ride throughout Downtown Birmingham. On Saturday, December 3 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., attendees can bring their cameras along for a visit from winter princesses who will sprinkle fairy dust and
have their picture taken with the children.

“We kicked off this event last year and received rave reviews from the community,” said John Heiney, executive director of the Principal Shopping District. “The event draws a very enthusiastic crowd who appreciates coming together to enjoy the aroma of fresh food and the sound of local school choirs as they shop for holiday gifts.”

New this year, the event will feature more vendors and traditional German food, including a tent hosted by Plum Market and a spiced wine tent hosted by Children's Leukemia Foundation. An expanded children’s activity area (Kinderhaus) will host crafts and activities for children throughout the event. Shoppers can escape the chilly December air at warming stations set up throughout Shain Park.

This event is hosted by the Birmingham Winter Markt Committee in cooperation with Birmingham’s Principal Shopping District. For more information and details about the event, visit www.birminghamwintermarkt.org or call (248) 530-1200.
