Sunday July 26th, 2015 marked the 5th Annual Give and Get Fit Health & Wellness event which took place on the scenic Detroit River Walk.  The event was created by Detroit TV and news personality Rhonda Walker through her non-profit Foundation.
Give and Get Fit started in 2011 as a way to focus on health and wellness through exercise. The first year featured Yoga and Pilates, and in subsequent years a 5K/10K run-walk  was added.  The Rhonda Walker Foundation partners with dozens of vendors and fitness
minded organizations to bring to life this health event.
Excited for this event, I chose to participate in the Yoga, pilates and kickboxing classes, each 20 minutes long, which took place over-looking the river.  It was a beautiful and serene view on a warm sunny morning.
There were 3 different specialized instructors who brought their expertise and taught each segment.  I really enjoyed each!  I thought it was very creative to include those in addition to the 5k/10k run/walk.  Normally I participate in a couple of runs a year so having an opportunity to do something different was exciting.
I wore the new Fitbit Surge that I received to test out courtesy of Verizon wireless.  It was useful to have something that fit nicely on my wrist to check number of steps, heart rate and calories burned.  The heart rate lost connection a few times while doing the Yoga though.  After two weeks of wearing this device, I will do a more comprehensive review of the Fitbit Surge and share my thoughts on it.

Overall my friend and I agreed that this is a great event and I’m already thinking of doing it again next year.  Everything was run smoothly and everyone was friendly.  Everyone also received a tech shirt as a part of their registration fee.  Since this was a smaller event parking was very close and easy.  And free!  What I liked most about this event other than the perfect location was that the cause the RWF supports.  Their mission is to empower inner city teen girls towards becoming strong, confident, successful and moral future leaders.  Their motto:
R: Respect myself and others
W: Walk with confidence
F: Fearless and Faithful
