Imaginosity Discovery Center Releases Its Official Logo With Help from Metro Detroiters

Imaginosity, an emerging Children's Discovery Center in Detroit,  has unveiled its official logo for its organization.



“The launch of our logo and the continued establishment of our center speaks to who we are as an organization and that we are a direct reflection of the demographics and wonderful region that we will serve – children, teens, and families, and a Metro Detroit region that is dynamic, modern and bold,” said Elizabeth Cannella, founder of Imaginosity.

The new logo, a halved brain with symbols of  Imagination and Curiosity is plugged into the name, "Imaginosity." The blue and green colors represent the organization's commitment to green and blue energy, an important aspect of the center which will also help determine how the 70,000 square foot facility is designed and created. "The plugged-in brain is perfect for us," continues Elizabeth,"It not only symbolizes 21st century (and beyond) technology, but also represents what happens to your brain when you are learning. Whether it is an activity such as reading, drawing, sculpting, building, or even experimenting, the brain is connected to the experience." 

The logo was created by local graphic artist, Lynne Dorando Hans of Hans On Design.

"Lynne actually came up with six different logos," says Elizabeth. "We then sat down with our Board and Steering Committee and discussed the designs, narrowing it down to two choices." Through several meetings with the graphic designer, acquiring opinions from focus groups around Metro Detroit, including participants as young as 9 years old to senior citizens across the region, the leadership of Imaginosity came to a natural decision on the logo. "The Metro Detroit region generously helped us make the final decision based on their support and comments towards the brain logo," she says, "The second-place logo will still be used, but as an interactive art experience for our guests to touch and use once we find a local fabricator who can help us make it a reality."

The organization, whose mission is "To inspire a lifelong love of learning," is proud that their logo represents an iconic design that will quickly become synonymous with the world class interactive Discovery Center. "We see Lynne's design fast becoming a recognizable entity in Metro Detroit and beyond. People will see the plugged-in brain and immediately think of us. Kids and teenagers will proudly wear the brain logo on clothing and ball caps. Adults will love to show it off on their office coffee mug," says Cannella. "It was a perfect fit to work with Lynne. She has created many memorable logos and campaigns for local and national groups, including now Imaginosity. Her ties to the Metro Detroit area made the collaboration even more meaningful for us. We will continue to work with her on our next projects which are gallery signage for our temporary and permanent centers."

The release of the logo ties into a very busy summer season for Imaginosity as the center officially launches its fundraising and continues to establish itself in the Detroit area with dynamic events and community outreach.

There are several upcoming community events including:
- "Imaginosity's Block Party" on Thursday, June 26 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., sponsored by H&R Block and supported by ABC Warehouse and other local businesses. The event takes place at 15413 Hall Road, Macomb, 48044. Additional summer "Block Parties" to be announced.
- Green Expo with the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy on June 28th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rivard Plaza, Detroit Riverfront.
- Bounce for Bucks at AirTime Trampoline in Troy on Monday, June 30th from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. A portion of the proceeds benefits Imaginosity Discovery Center. 662 East Big Beaver Road, Troy, 48083
- Eastern Market's Young Child Event on Sunday, July 13th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
-Children's Hospital, DMC Campus. July 25th. Private patient event.
- The Science of Micro-Breweries : An adult only fundraising event in late July. Date, time and location to be announced.
- Warren's Birthday Bash - August 23rd, Warren City Square.

Imaginosity Discovery Center, Inc., was founded in 2011 by Elizabeth Cannella. The emerging 70,000 sq.ft. center, planned for opening in 2017, is a Michigan nonprofit corporation. Imaginosity has a growing steering committee of forty Metro Detroit community members with expertise in many disciplines including the Arts, museum management, exhibit and design fabrication, education, architecture, finance, interior design, life sciences, paleo-ecology, mechanical engineering, public relations, and aerospace engineering. Imaginosity Discovery Center, Inc. is part of a documentary film for the Association of Children's Museums. This film follows and chronicles Imaginosity's journey from a "dream" to the "reality of opening its doors." The first installment of the documentary was released in May 2014.

Lynne Dorando Hans is a senior art director/ graphic designer and owner of her own business, Hans On Design.
