Flash #Giveaway Ragtime Street Fair at Greenfield Village July 12-13

Swing into summer with the ragged rhythms of ragtime music in Greenfield Village during Ragtime Street Fair July 12-13

Revel in ragtime, the upbeat musical phenomenon, during Ragtime Street Fair in Greenfield Village, July 12-13 with special hours until 9 pm on Saturday, July 12. This whirlwind weekend event will come alive with ragged rhythms and jazzy music, dancing, dramatic performances and classic street fair food. Guests can stroll right into the early 1900s and celebrate summer by dancing in the streets to the sounds of the River Raisin Ragtime Revue, "Perfessor" Bill Edwards, saxophone quartet the Moanin' Frogs and more.

Throughout the weekend, hits of the era will be played live—some for the first time in a hundred years—and watch pianists battle musically during an energetic "piano cutting" contest Saturday, July 12. Guests will hear performances by Brent Beggs, Daniel McCarthy, Eric Shore, Jerry "The Wolverine" Perrine, John Remmers, the Moanin' Frogs, "Perfessor" Bill Edwards, Tartarsauce Traditional Jazz Band and Taslimah Bey. The River Raisin Ragtime Revue will hit the stage for a Saturday evening performance starting at 7 pm and return on Sunday at 3 pm.

Guests can join in the fun and learn the dances from that time period including the two step. Twice daily, dancers will give short outdoor lessons and showcase their moves. Participating in the cake walk—the quintessential turn-of-the-century fair game—allows guests another opportunity to show off their dance steps and even "take the cake."

Live dramatic performances and silent movies will play during the event, including a re-creation of Theodore Roosevelt's 1912 presidential campaign speech and the premiere screening of the 1915 silent movie "A Night in the Show" at Town Hall. Accompanied by live piano music, the film stars silent film icon Sir Charlie Chaplin in two roles, Mr. Pest and Mr. Rowdy. Town Hall will also host live performances of "Simply Gershwin" and ragtime song pluggers.

Ragtime Street Fair will also feature flavorful snacks prepared by The Henry Ford's award-winning culinary staff including sweet fresh strawberries drizzled over a fluffy biscuit and topped with homemade whipped cream. Guests can also sample old style hot dogs, buttery popcorn and a truly decadent summer treat — hot fried dough doused with creamy ice cream.

Ragtime Street Fair is free with membership or $24 for adults, $22 for seniors 62 and up and $17.50 for youth 5-12. Children four and under are free. For more information, call (313) 982-6001 or visit http://www.thehenryford.org/events/motorMuster.aspx.
