Imagination, creativity, teamwork and fun.  This was our experience on Friday night at Brick It Up in Clarkston. (948 S Baldwin Rd, Clarkston) From my three to my thirteen year old, there was something for them all.

I watched my kids eyes go wide as we opened the door to Brick It Up.   Shelves lined with Lego creations and cubbies filled with bins of bricks.   We were met by Julie (the owner’s mother-in-law) who gave us a quick tour of the facility which is clean, neat and organized, giving me some great ideas on how to manage our own Lego situation at home!.  I’m a bit of a germophobe when it comes to kid play places, so I was also relieved to see hand sanitizer available throughout the building.

My daughter was drawn immediately to the Lego Friends area.  There were bins of pink Lego Bricks and small tables where she could sit and start to create.  Just behind the Lego Friends area was the Lego Duplo area where we saw some kids stacking large bricks to make a house.  There were also trains and tracks filled with Duplo animals.  The Lego Duplo area was a carpeted area unlike the rest of the building which is decked in wood floors so it was great place for the little ones to be able to get down on their hands and knees to explore.

My older boys were drawn to a large trough of Lego Bricks (which I learned was a converted salad bar from an area restaurant) with everything you need to create a Lego soap box derby car.   My three boys worked together to each make a car and took turns racing each other at the large, sloped track.
In addition to the areas I already mentioned, there was also featured, “The Lego Build of the Day” which was situated in the middle of a table, near the building’s fireplace.  There were trays set out at each seat at the table with the pieces needed to recreate the design.
One of my favorite areas, was the Lego spin table.   Paper plates sat atop spinning legos.  Placing a marker on top of the spinning plate, you create spin art.  It is safe to say that my three-year-old was mesmerized by the circular designs.
Some of the other fun things we discovered while being at Brick it Up was the Lego book area, Lego board games and Lego bingo!  My kids enjoyed a few rounds of bingo winning Lego stickers at the end.
When our time was up, my kids were making plans to come back.  Brick it Up offers the chance for kids of all ages to have birthday parties and even offer child drop off and care services, so both parents and kids can enjoy a carefree date night.  Brick it Up is a sure fire way to make any creative kid explore their imaginative side.  My kids left with lego brick candy and a smile on their faces. Brick it Up is a place I am sure we will visit again-soon!
