"No Box" Gift Giving Ideas for #MetroDetroit Families #NoBoxXmas

Black Friday is quickly approaching.  While some families plan on venturing out to find the best deals on toys and gifts for their family and friends, I will be spending the day at home. Our family will be decorating the house and listening to Christmas music. I am not worried one bit about missing out on those great deals.

If your family is anything like mine, the last thing we need at Christmas is more stuff.  We have too many clothes, too many toys, too much everything.  Christmas becomes an overwhelming overload of more stuff.  Buying gifts becomes stressful.  Will they like it?  Will they use it?  The day after Christmas is even more stressful.  Where am I going to put all this?

This year we are asking our friends and family to think of gifts that are more about experiences rather than material things.  What is at the top of your "No Box" list?

A membership to the Detroit Zoo can be used all year long.

  1. Agreed with all of these. Sometimes it's more about memories/experiences than cost.

  2. Funny. We are doing the same thing this year and I was just writing a post about it. :) Im glad to hear that other people are grasping the concept of experiences instead of material things. :)

  5. I love this! I would take an experience over a gift any day. That's what we do the day after Thanksgiving also!

  6. I love this idea! I too won't be shopping on Black Friday or Thanksgiving or any time soon really. I feel like we have too many things already. Last night I went through my closet and put away an entire garbage bag of clothes I can give away to charity this season. I love the membership ideas and fun experiences you listed above. I will DEFINITELY be coming back to this list often.

  9. Besides not wanting to face the crowds, I stay home too. I've been to Black Friday sales twice in my 15 years in the state of MI. (originally from Ontario, I never knew what BF was about till I moved here!) I don't mind missing out at all. Thanks for the great ideas!
