I have to admit, I LOVE a mini-vacation with my family.  Since we all enjoy water activities, Castaway Bay is a great option for a winter staycation. Castaway Bay is located in Sandusky, just a few hours away from Metro Detroit. At the present time, Rosaleigh is 8.5, Carlyn is 5.5 and Naomi is 2.5.  Both Rosa and Carlyn are very tall (90th percentile) for their ages, while Naomi is short for her age (30th percentile).

The Water Park at Castaway Bay

The water park is the main attraction at Castaway Bay.  It is filled with fun for the whole family.

Toddler’s Tide Pool

The Toddler’s Tide Pool is a great place for younger guests.  Shallow waters, smaller slides, water jets as well as a waterfall make this the perfect place for infants and toddlers to hang out and enjoy the day.  Children can enjoy the pool with or without the use of a life jacket.

Castaway Bay Wave Pool

Rosaleigh and Carlyn spent most of their time in the wave pool.  The pool oscillates between cycles of waves and resting so guests can enjoy the pool with and without the waves. Small jets of water line the zero-depth entry pool, ideal for younger guests to splash and play.
However, guests that do not meet the height requirement must wear a life jacket in the Castaway Bay Wave Pool.

Lookout Lagoon Family Funhouse

The Lookout Lagoon Family Funhouse is home to the big bucket, dumping gallons of water every few minutes on its guests.  The attraction hosts many water features, handles together with jets that guests can interact with. There are also four fun slides, Tropical Twister, Pineapple Pipeline, Mango Melee, and Paradise Plunge. Height requirements apply to the slides.  Surprisingly, Naomi was within an inch of meeting the height requirement for the smaller slides (age 2.5).  Guests need not wear a life jacket while enjoying Lookout Lagoon Family Funhouse.

The Grotto at Castaway Bay

The Grotto is an amazing indoor/outdoor hot tub.  Complete with warm water and jets, this relaxing pool allows guests to sit back and wind down.  I love that the outdoor section is open in the winter, and you can enjoy the pool even when it is snowing outside. This was a family favorite.  Castaway Bay does not require guests to wear life jackets while enjoying The Grotto. However, children that do not meet the height requirement must be accompanied by an adult.

Rendezvous Run

Rendezvous Run is a raft ride that traverses the inside of the waterpark. The ride can accommodate up to two guests and has a height requirement.  Finally, the ride had a couple of minor drops and most of the ride occurs in the dark.  Rosaleigh and Carlyn both enjoyed this ride.

Creature Cove

The Creature Cove is a fun place to climb and play.  This section hosts several basketball hoops as well as two floating creatures.  Guests that do not meet height requirements must wear a life jacket and may need to be accompanied by an adult.

Cargo Crossing

All three of the girls enjoyed the Cargo Crossing.  Floating barrels together with boxes provide footing for passage across this span of water with a cargo net to help guests maintain their balance.  Guests that do not meet height requirements must wear a life jacket and may need to be accompanied by an adult. Rosaleigh was tall enough to participate by herself without a life jacket. According to the rules, Carlyn had to wear a life jacket. Additionally, Naomi had to wear a life jacket and they required an adult to be in the water with her.

For Naomi, I held her hand and moved the boxes in the water so she could climb from one to another.  She was too short to reach the net.

Tropical Tube Slides

Three slides are featured in the Tropical Tube Slide atrraction.  The Yellow slide provides guests with the ability to see during their trip and is mid paces, while the green and pink slides are dark.  The green is the slowest slide, followed by yellow and pink is the fastest.  After the ride is over guests are dumped into a pool of water (about 3 feet), so guests should be able to hold their breath when submerged in the pool.  Height restrictions apply.  Life jackets are not allowed on this ride.   Overall the girls had a most fantastic time at Castaway Bay.Check out our other articles if you want to read more about expereinces:  Castaway Bay 2016 #staycation
