OK Kabrita, where have you been all my life?

You know that Mommy moment, when you think back to how you did things and wish you could have a do-over? I experienced this with Kabrita. First, my kids tried the Kabrita Goat Milk Yogurt & Fruit pouches and loved them. I mean loved. We started out with a 6-pack and next thing you know I am online ordering another pack to get us through the road trip we just came home from. Then I saw their impressive line-up of products, including a non-gmo, goats milk toddler formula. I really wish I had known that existed back when my kids would have needed it. It's very hard to find safe and nutritious options for our little ones.  When you know better, you do better.  Had I known that these options were available, I would have used them instead of the leading brands that were dangerous and I didn't even know it.  With that being said, back to the pouches.
I am generally not a fan of food pouches. I find that the nutritional value is depleted during the heating process and that the fruit simply becomes a sugar, then vitamins are added back in for the benefit of saying that they are actually good for them when in reality they are so processed the child can't digest them and the vitamins come from questionable sources.

So, the first thing I did was examine the label. I found that the vitamins are coming from whole -food sources and not added vitamin supplements. Further, I see that the yogurt is pasteurized and that the product is heated to destroy any un-wanted bacteria (which includes the wanted bacteria, too, since yogurt offers probiotics that will not be found in these pouches). I do find these yogurts to come in a little high on the sugar side, checking in with 13 grams per pouch. With that being said, they are pretty much tied up with the other leading pouches in the range of sugar seen. I was happy to see that lemon juice and non-gmo pectin are used as the preservatives in the pouch. This shows me that these products have not been preserved and treated beyond recognition and that they still hold natural nutritional values and will be easily digested by little tummies. This is key.

Secondly, I researched the company. I am so happy with what I found! I learned that the founder is a Mother herself, just trying to safely nourish her baby! She is right, that goats milk mirrors human breastmilk and is generally safer and more nutritious for all humans, but especially little people. Millions of children across the country have sensitivity to cows milk and parents don't even know it because they are masked by ailments that have sadly become common – such as eczema, frequent ear infections, bloating/gas, gi distress, constipation, etc. Further, she is a ND (Naturopathic Doctor) like myself so I know she understands the nutritional needs of the children consuming the products and understands the dangers of over-processing and adding sugar.

Third, we taste-tested them. They were pretty sweet but tasted good. My family does not consume dairy or casein, but we will occasionally consume goats milk products. My Children enjoyed these pouches and said the Banana and Vanilla Bean tasted like 'Birthday Cake'. My favorite was the mixed berry.

The bottom line. I believe that these pouches are worth the price that they are sold for. Sourcing goats milk and non-gmo ingredients and maintaining the integrity of your food is not easy for any company to do, but Kabrita is doing it. You get what you pay for and I am willing to pay more knowing that the foods my children consume are actually going to benefit them. We did take these on a 6 day road trip that we just returned from, and my children each had one per day. When we travel, we take everything that our family needs to eat for the whole trip with us when we leave home. We cannot always count on being able to find affordable organic options in the local grocery stores for the cities we visit. These pouches were right up front with me so I could easily pass them back to the kids to enjoy on the road. That is one of the benefits of pouches, no spoons – no bowls, and generally, no mess. With that beings said, these pouches would not become a part of my childrens' routine diets. They are great for convenience food and I trust them to be of the highest quality that pouches can be – but for home, it's live goats milk yogurt and fresh fruit for them instead. It is nice to know that Kabrita is the next best option available in a pinch and on the go... and I love that they are rocking the 'butterfly' that I really trust when I am choosing foods for my family.

I really commend Kabrita for working so hard to be the best option out there. I used to say I will never again buy pouches. I will likely buy these Kabrita Goats Milk Yogurt Pouches next time we are on the road again.

Peace, Love and Healthy Foods!
