Michigan Alliance-PTI is offering a free workshop

Special Education: Your Child Has Rights
with Sandee Koski - Michigan Alliance for Families
Laura Taylor - Michigan's Integrated Technology Services

Saturday, March 21 , 2015
10:00 am - 3:30 pm
(sign-in opens at 9:30 pm. Lunch provided)
University of Detroit Mercy School of Law 651 E. Jefferson Avenue, Detroit, MI
(Free parking is available on Larned Street, across from the building entrance.)

This workshop will help you better understand the Individualized Education Program (IEP) for children and youth who receive special education services.
Our goal is to help you understand the basic IEP components and how they work together, specifically: The present level of academic achievement and functional performance (PLAAFP statement); Writing measurable goals and objectives; Support services; and Plan implementation.

We will also take a closer look at a specific part of the IEP - Assistive Technology. Consideration of assistive technology should take place in every IEP, for every student. As part of the IEP team, parents and students should be a vital part of the "consideration process".

Parents and school staff must communicate often and well to effectively plan for students with disabilities.
