Macomb Township Recreation Center

This past week we were tipped off to a little gem called the Macomb Township Recreation Center.  This facility is located right off of 25 Mile Road, east of Romeo Plank.  WARNING!!! If you look up their address on Google, you will not be in the correct location.  It is better to look up the address for Suburban Ice Macomb, since it is right down the street from them.

Unfortunately, I had made the mistake of using the Google map location and ended up in the midst of an unfinished housing development, but the Macomb Recreation Center was easily visible so we eventually arrived there after some driving. This state-of-the-art 57,000 square-foot facility offers residents and non-residents a gymnasium, aerobics, complete workout area, running track, an indoor water park featuring two pools, water slide, lazy river, Jacuzzi and family-friendly changing areas, men’s & women’s locker & shower rooms, soft play indoor playscape, child watch room, teen game room and party room. The children sat somewhat patiently on the lobby bench as I filled out the required waiver form and paid the $10 fee.  The center currently charges $5/resident and $10/non-resident.  Up to two children under the age of four may attend for free with one paying adult and memberships are available.

In addition to the facilities, the Macomb Recreation Center offers a wide variety of classes and programs including fitness classes, sports for kids and summer concerts.  Our visit solely consisted of visiting the indoor playscape.

The children entered the playscape and immediately ran to the stairs and began to explore.  The large structure hosts many features including two sets of staggered stairs for climbing, rock climbing walls, hanging punching bags, a suspended race car, a spiral slide and so much more.

In addition to the large playscape, there is a Step 2 play house with window shades that Rosa and Evan spent a significant time opening and closing.  They also pressed the doorbell several times, only to find that each time they did, nothing happened.

The last piece of play equipment in the room was a primary colored climber that looked perfect for younger children, especially those who are just learning to walk.  Rosa and Evan explored the climber, but did not spend a lot of of time playing on it.

I was very impressed with the seating available on the side wall and the cushioned floor.  Overall, it is a very nice play room.  On its own, I would choose to visit McDonald’s or Burger King on Hall Road over going to this play area. However, there are so many other great amenities available at the Macomb Recreation Center that make it a fantastic place to spend the day.
