My Accidental Essential Oil Journey - Recipe #2: Bug Off! Lotion Bar

My Accidental Essential Oil Journey

By: Alexia Mancilla-Jackson - Young Living Essential Oils Independent Distributor

It was a random Wednesday, in December, when I stumbled upon the world of essential oils. I was supposed to be preparing for tomorrow’s lesson, but instead I was procrastinating and I was hoping to find someone who wanted to join me. I went to visit a co-worker and once I entered her room, I smelled something incredible. It smelled like cinnamon, cloves and a little bit of lemon; instantly I was hooked! She was diffusing an oil blend called Thieves…and the rest in history!

Over the next five weeks I will be sharing with you my top five favorite recipes.

Bug Off! Lotion Bar.

This one helps keep those creepy crawly’s off me and my littles!

Ingredients:
1 cup of coconut oil
1/2 cup mixture of cocoa butter & shea butter. (Mostly cocoa butter and a couple of spoons of shea butter)
2/3 cups of beeswax
1 tsp. Vitamin E oil
25 drops of Young Living Citronella essential oil, plus added extra drops on top of each lotion bar before they solidified
25 drops of Young Living Lavender essential oil
15 drops Young Living Purification essential oil
10 drops of Young Living Peppermint essential oil

How to:

In a double boiler, or a homemade one like mine...melt the beeswax first, since the beeswax pieces took a longer time to melt than the butters.

I melted the cocoa butter in the microwave to soften it just a bit to mix with the shea butter and whipped them both together.  I wanted to make sure to get an accurate 1/2 cup. Then add to the double broiler.

Once everything is melted, remove from the stove and pour into a glass measuring cup. Add the vitamin E oil and drops of essential oils to the mixture and stir. Then pour into silicon molds.

Add a couple drops of Citronella to each bar. Let set minimum 4 hrs. Best left to leave set overnight.

Take your solid bar and apply as if you are rubbing on lotion!
