Livonia-based Team Schostak Family Restaurants (TSFR) opened Detroit's first Applebee's restaurant today. This is the first national casual dining chain located outside the city's central business district. This location features a brand new and improved layout designed to elevate the dining experience for guests, including high-rise ceilings, an expanded bar area, more televisions, and larger windows to provide more natural light. The new Detroit Applebee's celebrates both Detroit and bordering Ferndale by infusing local elements of both cities throughout the restaurant to give it an elevated neighborhood bar and grill feel.
We ordered the Brew Pub Pretzels & Beer Cheese Dip appetizer, I walked around to get some pictures of the restaurant and chat with a few friends, and I came back to just one pretzel. I was told by my husband and children that they were very good. (At least they saved me one to try.. LOL) and they were so tasty, I especially liked the Beer Cheese Dip, I saved it to dip my french fries in with my dinner.
The kids menu is great. There are a few more items not pictured, but I was focusing on the sides here in this picture.. so many great and healthy options. I was happy my kids picked applesauce and apple dippers to go along with their Mac & Cheese.
Chancellor chose the Brisket Enchiladas. I'm not too fond of enchiladas to start, but these were very good, so good I would order them.. and that is saying a lot. The brisket was super yummy and the corn tortillas were perfectly cooked, not chewy.
I ordered the Quesadilla Burger, I think we were both in the mood for Mexican food that night. This also was very good. I loved the tortilla as a bun option and all the flavors mixed well together. I would order this again too.
I also had the opportunity to try the strawberry lemonade which was perfect. My only complaint is that they didn't offer the low calorie lemonade, so I only had one glass.
Overall I say this new restaurant is a huge win for the city of Detroit and local residents. The atmosphere and food are great and I especially love that Team Schostak Family Restaurants chose a location within the city limits. The 8 Mile and Woodward area is growing and is now a destination for shopping and dining for many in the area.
