No Candy Halloween? ...........what?!

It's totally true -
my family does Halloween with no candy!

Every year, we get our group of friends together for a Halloween Party that we look forward to all year around!  The kids choose their costumes and trick or treat bags - and instead of us Moms buying candy for our neighborhoods, we just buy goodies instead.  So this year in our group there were 23 kids and each child got 12 goody bags as they trick-or-treated the different stations we set up outside in the yard.

Inside these goody bags you can expect to find little puzzles, necklaces, stickers, craft projects, little toys, trinkets and games.  Each child collects their loot and then they get to sit down and play together while they open their treasures and prizes.

This year, in addition to trick or treating and our annual potluck style dinner, we hired a balloon twister to add to the magic.  It was a gift to the party from one of our families, but in future years we may consider doing this again.  Splitting the cost between all of the families brings it down to about $10 each, which is about the same price as a bag of candy.

This Halloween party is so much fun for all of the kids, but for us parents too!

It offers us a fun experience with the friends that mean the most to us.  We save money, have less to worry about and end up with lots of great memories and pictures to enjoy for years to come.  The best part, the icing on the cake, is that we are not filling our kids with sugars and it is safe and enjoyable for the kids that are missing out because of food allergies.  Instead of trick or treating for candies, we just have some healthy treats for them to have at the potluck instead.  They all enjoy being in their costumes all day and fantasy playing with their friends.
We know that  this Halloween style doesn't work for everyone, and that's perfectly ok!  But if your family has food allergies that make this and other holidays tough, just know that there are fun and creative options for creating a Halloween that they will never forget!
