MDM - Gift Guide 2015: Personalized handmade leather journal

Welcome to our 2015 holiday gift guide!

In our earlier post, I talked about how I am going to be choosing gifts from outside the walls of big-box stores and mass online retailers and seek out the unique and beautiful gifts offered elsewhere.

For our first post in the gift guide, I'd like to share with you this beautiful leather journal from In Blue Handmade.  I chose this gift for my Dad; who appreciates the beauty and timelessness of a journal and real paper.  I have no idea what he writes or doodles in them, or if he even does - but I know he is going to love and treasure this journal.  It's buttery soft and a gorgeous rich color with lots of character. I especially love that they offer personalization for no extra charge when you order.

It's such a lovely experience to shop from a small, local or family owned business.
I try to get to know the people I am shopping from and add to the intimacy of gift giving.

In Blue Handmade is owned by Mary Lynn Schroeder.  It is a boutique company specializing in handmade leather journals and accessories.Founded in 2008 after the then 25-year-old Schroeder moved from Chicago to a small farm in Southern Illinois, In Blue has blossomed into the #1 leather shop on Etsy.  Based in a converted warehouse studio space in West Asheville, NC, In Blue crafts each top-grain cowhide product by hand, tracing and cutting pattern pieces, sewing 'em up, stamping down ink, and shipping them off.

Take a look at the photos and see how beautiful and intricate the details are!

Who in your family would love a classic leather journal like this?  It's such a thoughtful gift - because whatever they have to say, matters.

Keep an eye out for more thoughtful gifts as we share them throughout the month!

Wishing you lots of love through the holidays and always!
