Frostology: The Science of the Season: Imagination Station in Toledo

Explore the science of cold with Frostology: The Science of the Season

Imagination Station introduces Frostology: The Science of the Season from December 1, 2015 to January 3, 2016. Frostology will examine the slippery science of snow, turn elves into engineers, and design masterpieces from paper with winter-themed activities.

Frostology activities will be available daily. Explore the properties of a superabsorbent polymer with Insta-Snow. Discover the principles of crystallography by creating a 3D Snowflake. Make a snowman dance, melt and reform using sound waves and a non-Newtonian fluid. Every Saturday at 11 a.m. & 1 p.m., the science center will be cooking with chemistry to harness the power of cold and create liquid nitrogen ice cream for a winter treat.

“The changing seasons is a great opportunity to talk with our visitors about science,” said Sloan Eberly Mann, assistant director of STEM education. “The changes in temperature and snow can often seem mysterious, but there are scientific reasons why the weather behaves how it does. Frostology lets us initiate that conversation with our visitors and introduce them to some fun ways of exploring the science of winter.”

Throughout Frostology, visitors can enjoy a display of hand-cut snowflakes from Toledo’s very own artist, Mary Gaynier; her collection will showcase many iconic images including Imagination Station’s BOYO and The High Wire Cycle as well as many of Toledo’s famous landmarks and organizations.

MythBusters: The Explosive Exhibition will be open throughout Frostology. Can you hang from the edge of a cliff? Can you really pull a tablecloth out from beneath a pile of dishes? Is it possible to dodge a paintball? Find out at Imagination Station. Presented by BP. Supported by Comfort Line FiberFrame. Additional ticket required. Tickets available online at
