Castaway Bay 2016 #staycation

Castaway Bay in Sandusky invited us to enjoy an overnight stay, the water park and dinner (free of charge) this past weekend in exchange for this promotional post.  All opinions are my own.  Your experience may differ.

Castaway Bay is in Sandusky, Ohio, and is one of the Cedar Point properties.  It is located at the entrance to the causeway to Cedar Point and is about a two hour drive from Metro Detroit.

The Hotel

This Caribbean themed resort destination is perfect for family vacationers, especially when you want to escape the winter blues and pretend you are on a tropical island. Castaway Bay features 237 hotel rooms and suites including family-oriented units, a 38,000-square-foot indoor waterpark loaded with water activities for all ages, fitness center, 6,000-square-foot state-of-the-art arcade, a craft and child activity center, three restaurants, retail shops, adjacent marina and space for meetings, group events and birthday parties.

Our Hotel Room

This year we stayed in the Tarpon Suite, which included a king-size bed,
2 sets of bunk beds (twin size) in a separate area, dorm-size refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, 2 televisions (one in the kid's room), free WIFI, and a private screened in balcony.  This suite accommodates up to 6 guests and includes up to six Indoor Waterpark Passes.

Family Fun

Castaway Bay offers a ton of activities for children and their families including: Castaway Arts & Crafts, Souvenir Coloring T-Shirts & Backpacks (additional charges apply), PEANUTS™ Meet and Greet, Caribbean Games and PEANUTS™, Karaoke and PEANUTS™,  Dance Party, Scavenger Hunt and PEANUTS™ Family Movie Followed By Story Time With Snoopy and Face Painting & Balloons.

There is so much to do and see without leaving the resort.  The girls had a grand time meeting Snoopy, singing Karaoke, doing the scavenger hunt, watching the Peanuts movie and hearing a bedtime story.

The Waterpark

The waterpark is a great size for families with younger children.  It isn't too overwhelming and has a very laid back feel.  The girls had a fantastic time.

When you first walk in you will see the Toddler's Tide Pool straight ahead.  The girls spend a majority of their time here and at the Castaway Bay Wave Pool which is to the left.  (on the right in the image above).

The Toddler's Tide Pool is a zero depth entry pool with slides, fountains, and other water features, including a waterfall.

The wave pool was AWESOME.  Rosa was able to go in this year without a life jacket, and Carlyn enjoyed it a ton too. Here's a video of Carlyn enjoying the waves.

Carlyn is a boss in the wavepool thanks to lessons every week at Aqua-Tots Swim Schools. #bloggerperks #castawaybay Castaway Bay

Creature Cove
Lookout Lagoon Family Funhouse
Lookout Lagoon Family Funhouse  is a gigantic multi-story interactive play area with more than 100 different elements.  There is a 1,000-gallon tipping bucket that spills over every two minutes. There are fun slides there too.. but since they were tunnel slides and you had to go under a waterfall element to ride them, Rosa and Carlyn had no interest in trying these out.

The Grotto was so wonderful.  It's an indoor/outdoor whirlpool spa.  The water was just right (not too hot for the kids), and we all thought it was so cool to go outside and "swim" outside when the weather was so cold.

There are many slides at the park.  I didn't try any of them out since the girls were not interested at all in them.  Maybe next time... but I'm sure they would be great for older (or braver) children.

You can enjoy lunch, dinner or a snack without leaving the water park.  They offer fresh deli sandwiches, bread sticks, wings, pizza, bosco sticks, soft serve ice cream, beer, soft drinks, cookies and ICEEs.

There were plenty of chairs all over the place.  Lots of space to sit down and watch the kids as they play, although we found that many chairs were "reserved" with people's belongings.

Lockers to store your belongings. We chose to use a locker the second day, which was really nice.  You choose a 4 digit pin for your locker and can access it as many times as you like throughout the day for one price.

The Arcade

At Crabbie's Quarterdeck Arcade there are a ton of games to play.  Many of the games award tickets, which then can be turned in to the ticket counter for a variety of prizes.

The Meals

Our first night, we enjoyed dinner at Quaker Steak & Lube, which is right in the hotel.  It is nice restaurant that specializes in wings and burgers.  Hubby and I both tried the wings, which were flavored really well.  YUM.

Had had breakfast at Mango Mikes, which is a buffet with eggs, pancakes, sausage, bacon, biscuits, gravy, cereal, pastries, fruit and more and the price included beverages.

For lunch we enjoyed Deli Style sandwiches, with chips at Ebb & Eddy's Deli.  They also serve coffe drinks, pastries, pizza, ice cream and a wide variety of other items.

This mini vacation was such a fantastic experience for our family.  We all had such a wonderful time.  I can't wait to go back again.
