Zehnder's Splash Village - Frankenmuth #Staycation

I don't know about you, but winter has me a bit in the dumps.  It's been a relatively mild winter so far, but it's still been too cold to go out regularly and I miss warmer weather.  Last weekend our family took a break from the winter and entered into a summer oasis hosted indoors at Zehnder's Splash Village.  They graciously covered our hotel stay, waterpark passes and two of our meals so we could let you know all about what they offer. All opinions in this post are genuine and my own.  I was not obliged to give a positive review.  Your experience may vary.

Zehnder's Splash Village Hotel and Waterpark is located in Frankenmuth, MI, right off of I-75.  They offer 178 rooms including 74 family suites. The Splash Village Indoor Waterpark is over 50,000 sq. ft. of aquatic fun with a six-story family raft ride and super loop body slide; zero-entry activity pool with water geysers, water basketball and volleyball, Action River, Splash Landing play area, Dumping Bucket, Giggling Gorge and Perilous Plunge 4 story tube slides, Whimsical Whirl Hot Tub and Crooked Brook Creek Lazy River.

Other on site attractions include an Arcade, indoor pool and hot tub (not part of the waterpark) Elf Hollow Cafe and the Mushroom Grille. Zehnder's Splash Village includes elves and fairies as part of the waterpark and hotel's overall theme.

The Hotel Room

We stayed in a Family Suite which consists of two queen beds, queen-sized pullout sofa sleeper, a sitting area, jetted tub and a fireplace. We also had a microwave, mini refrigerator, two flat screen cable TV’s with HBO and hotel pay per view, coffee maker, ironing board, iron and hair dyer in our room. And Family Suites include up to 6 complimentary waterpark passes.

The waterpark is separated into two main sections, the Splash Waterpark and the Atrium Waterpark.  The Atrium is the newer section, with skypanels that allow the sun to brighten the space with glorious sunshine. {insert angel's harmoniously singing "ahhh"} (Yes, it was that awesome).  All the pool areas were kept at a comfortable temperature with warm air and water.

The Splash Waterpark

The Splash Waterpark hosts a basketball pool where the depth started at three feet.  This allowed Carlyn, age 3,  and Rosa, age 6, to touch the bottom of the pool on one side, but they were both not able to touch the bottom at the deeper end where the water was four feet.  Carlyn spent most of the time at the park with a life jacket on.  We brought our own, but they did have extras for you to borrow during your stay.  We also brought the girls Frogglez goggles.

Dragon Fly Pond features five lily pads with a cargo net over top.   Rosa, age 6, was able to do this easily, however it was a challenge for Carlyn, age 3.)

The Crooked Brook Creek is a lazy river (both girls LOVED this) which could be navigated with or without innertubes, This is the slower of the two lazy rivers that are available at the park. There are a few water features that spray water in the kids, but nothing that is too overwhelming.  At two feet and six inches both girls were able to walk in the river.  This also allowed them both the opportunity to practice swimming.

The Giggling Gorge and Periods Plunge are intertube waterslides that can accommodate up to two riders.  Our girls are not big on slides, so after some convincing, Carlyn tried it with me and she loved it.  We tipped over at the end and she fell into the water, but she loved it and asked to go again.  It was a bit fast for me to do with her.  I was very nervous but it went well all three times we went down.

Both girls spend a fair amount of time at the Wee Folk Springs which is a zero-depth entry pool with swings, a teeter totter, fountains, slides and other spray features.  There is a hot tub in the back for the adults, and the Village Bar concessions even serves a wide variety of adult beverages, including mudslides which are heavenly.

My girls didn't spend much time in the big bucket area, even though there is a lot for them to do there, including slides, spray features and the bucket.

Atrium Park

Atrium Park is the newer section, which I personally preferred because it was brightly lit.  This side features a zero depth splash pool which transitions into a basketball/volleyball pool for the older children.

We spent a fair amount of time in this section too.  I like how the slide in this section is easily accessible for little guests and sectioned off with nets. There are fun sprays, fountains and jets too.

The basketball section is connected to the Action River.  Kickboards and innertubes are available for the guests to use, or they can swim the River.  Rosa enjoyed the river, but it was a bit turbulent for her.

Another hot tub for the adults is available in the atrium.  This one is more out in the open.  While children were allowed to visit both hot tubs, I wouldn't recommend it as the water was rather hot for our girls.  After a few minutes they were very red.

This section also offers a couple of water slides including a family raft ride and the Super Loop Speed Slide.

Zehnder's also has two cabanas in this section that are available to rent with reserved seating, house phone, fridge, flat screen TV and a safe.  This would be great for a birthday party or special event.

There are also poolside rooms available with reserved seating in the Atrium:

The Indoor Pool

After checking out the waterpark, the girls wanted to see what the indoor pool had to offer too.  I have to say that I LOVED the indoor pool too.  Three sections make this pool a perfect break spot for your family.  The regular pool offers a deeper pool where kids can play and jump in, a lower depth pool (on the right in the image below) is perfect for younger guests and the hot tub in the middle, which was not too hot.  There is also a sauna, changing rooms and restroom.

The Food

We enjoyed the breakfast buffet at the Elf Hollow Cafe, which included pancakes french toast, waffles, syrup, whipped cream, strawberry topping, hash browns, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, biscuits, sausage gravy, donuts, muffins, yogurt, granola, fresh fruit & berries, pastries and more.

A trip to Frankenmuth is not complete with a trip to Zehnder's Restaurant (complimentary shuttle service is available) where you and your family can enjoy a family style chicken dinner with all the sides.  The buttery noodles were by far our favorite, but the mashed potatoes, dressing and fresh breads were all very tasty too.
