RYAN SHECKLER BRINGS RED BULL HART LINES BACK TO THE MOTOR CITY
DETROIT’S HART PLAZA TO HOST 25 OF THE TOP SKATEBOARDERS IN THE WORLD MAY 14-15
In 2015, Red Bull Hart Lines debuted as one of the most inventive new street skateboarding competitions on the scene with its one-of-a-kind course layout and format, all developed from the mind of skateboard icon Ryan Sheckler. In 2016, the biggest names in skateboarding will return to Detroit’s Hart Plaza May 14 & 15 to take on the unique two-lane course and put their skills to the test. Hart Lines airs as part of the Red Bull Signature Series, a collection of the most innovative and progressive events in action sports. Fans can attend the event live, watch the finals live on Red Bull TV May 15th, or tune-in to a two-hour highlight program on NBC June 26th at 1:00pm EST.
“I'm super stoked to be heading back to Detroit for Red Bull Hart Lines,” said host and competitor Ryan Sheckler. “Last year was awesome and this year is going to be even better with a bigger, improved course and room for more community involvement around the Hart Lines venue. Detroit hustles harder!”
Based on athlete feedback, the event format has been updated for the second year competition. First, each athlete will take a total of four runs; two on each lane. The average score from each lane will again be averaged to make up the skater’s initial score. Second, a timed element will be incorporated to encourage overall flow and fluidity through the course, something no other skateboarding contest has ever done. For the skater who finishes the course with the fastest time, no points will be deducted from his original score. But the second fastest skater will have one point removed from his original score, the third fastest skater will have two points removed from his original score, and so on up to a maximum deduction of 10 points. Lastly, once these points have been deducted for the timed element, the final scores and rankings will be determined reflecting an overall mix of difficulty, style and speed. This dynamic, one-of-a-kind course will feature a mix of existing as well as custom built stair sets, rails and ledges by California Ramp Works.
In addition to Sheckler, this year’s roster includes street skateboarding all-stars like Felipe Gustavo, Ryan Decenzo and 2015 Red Bull Hart Lines winner, Curren Caples. A complete athlete list will be released closer to the event.
In order to support the local community and Motor City’s growing skateboarding scene, Sheckler will be participating in a demo at Modern Skate and Surf on April 2nd at 2pm EST. Joining him will be Ryan Decenzo, Torey Pudwill, Joey Brezinski, Felipe Gustavo and TJ Rodgers. Modern Skate and Surf is located at 1500 N Stephenson HWY, Royal Oak, MI 48067.
Sal Masekela, the definitive voice in action sports, will host the Red Bull Signature Series show. Red Bull Hart Lines is brought to a national NBC audience in partnership with Pennzoil Synthetics, Polaris RZR, and BFGoodrich. For more information, please visit redbull.com/hartlines.
