A Quick and Easy Craft: Puffy Paint!

I’m always looking for new crafts/activities that keep my boys busy and away from the video games, so when my youngest and I were introduced to the DIY puffy paint, we so had to make our own. This is really easy, I had all the ingredients on hand, and the resulting paintings were fabulous.

Simply put, all you need is Elmer’s glue and shaving cream – that’s it. You mix the two, 50/50, add a drop or two of food coloring, then let the kids go nuts. Any puffs of paint will stiffen upon drying, giving your little artists’ painting a very cool 3D effect.

My boys love playing with the puffy paint and they ask to make some all the time. If you’re looking for a quick craft, then this is one I would suggest. It’s not that messy, and if the kids do have a little too much fun, it’s a really easy clean-up since all you need is a little water.

This puffy paint is also fabulous in the bathtub. My little artists love "painting" on the walls while they are taking their bath and the puffy paint allows me to give them colors to paint with instead of the boring white on white walls. Then when they're all done, it's a quick spray of the walls and everything is cleaned up.

I do feel the need to mention that my shower is lined with ceramic(esque?) tiles and the Elmer's glue easily washes off.  Before you try this with your own littles, test your shower walls to make sure the glue doesn't affect them.

The best thing I found about this easy craft is it allowed my boys to run wild with their imagination.
