3 Brunch Mocktails for Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is a special occasion where we honor and celebrate the amazing women in our lives who have shaped us into who we are today. Brunch is a popular way to celebrate this day whether dining at home or at a restaurant. If you’re taking the home route, consider serving up mocktails that can be enjoyed by everyone, including pregnant women, kids, and those who choose not to consume alcohol.

Mocktails are cocktails that offer all the delicious flavors and refreshing qualities of traditional cocktails, sans the alcohol. They can be made with a variety of ingredients such as fruit juices, syrups, and flavorful sodas, and can be garnished with herbs, fruits, and flowers for an added visual appeal.

Fruit-forward and relatively low in added sugar, mocktails often also offer health benefits. Using fruits and herbs in the preparation adds vitamins and antioxidants to the mix, while making them sans the alcohol significantly reduces the calorie count.

So, raise a glass to the mothers in your life and enjoy a refreshing mocktail in their honor with these three options:

Fresh-squeezed Mimosa Mocktails – Serves 2

These fresh-squeezed mimosas are a non-alcoholic version of the classic brunch cocktail made with orange juice and champagne. This refreshing drink is perfect for those who want to enjoy the flavors of a mimosa without the alcohol content. It’s simply made with fresh juice and sparkling water or soda, giving it a light and bubbly texture.

Ingredients:

  • Plain or flavored sparkling water (see instructions below)
  • 1 orange
  • 3 peaches or 1 can of peaches (packed in juice or water)
  • Edible glitter

Instructions:

  1. For a classic mocktail mimosa: Cut an orange in half. Slice a thin wedge from both if desired for garnish. In a champagne flute, squeeze juice from ½ orange and combine with plain or orange sparkling water. Add a pinch of edible glitter if desired and stir.
  2. For a peach Bellini mocktail: Slice 3 peaches, remove the core, reserving a slice for garnish. Blend with just enough water to allow it to blend (2-4 Tbsp.). Alternatively, blend 1 can of peaches in a blender until smooth. Add 4 tablespoons of the mixture to a champagne flute and top with peach-flavored or plain sparkling water. Add a pinch of edible glitter if desired and stir.

Strawberry No-jito – Makes 1

This mocktail rendition of the mojito is perfect for warm weather. The natural sweetness of the strawberries combined with the tangy lime juice and fresh mint creates a delightful and unique flavor that is both refreshing and satisfying.

Ingredients:

  • 10 mint leaves
  • 5 strawberries
  • Juice from ½ lime
  • 1 Tbsp. honey or simple syrup
  • Lime sparkling water
  • Ice

Instructions:

  1. Place mint leaves, strawberries, and lime juice in a glass and muddle them together using a muddler or the handle of a wooden spoon.
  2. Add the honey or simple syrup and stir. Add ice and top with sparkling water. Add more honey or simple syrup if desired.
  3. Garnish with lime slices and a sprig of mint

Non-alcoholic Sangria – Serves 6-8

Sangria is a drink that originated in Spain traditionally made up of wine-soaked in a blend of fruit. This sangria-inspired antioxidant-packed drink is a great way to enjoy the flavors of the classic drink, sans the alcohol.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 medium apple, sliced
  • 2 cups cranberry juice, no sugar added
  • 2 cups grape juice, no sugar added
  • 1 cup orange juice, no sugar added
  • 4 cups sparkling water, plain or lime-flavored

Instructions:

  1. In a large pitcher, add lemon, orange, and apple slices. Add juices and stir well. Allow to soak for at least 1 hour before serving.
  2. Refrigerate until ready to use.
  3. Right before serving, add sparkling water and mix well. Serve with ice if desired. Serve within 48 hours or making.
