Road Coat – A Car Seat Safe Down Coat

Disclosure: If you have any questions about your child and their car seat please consult with a Licensed Car Seat Technician, you can find one here: http://cert.safekids.org/ I was given a Road Coat from OneKid free of charge so that I could try it out and share my experience with you. All opinions are my own, your experience may differ.

It is getting cold out, we are preparing for winter and cooler temperatures mean more clothing. It’s time to bundle your kids in to get in the car and now you have to adjust the straps on your child’s car seat to accommodate their bulky coat. Did you know that that adjustment can put your child at risk?
According to the American Association of Pediatrics bulky clothing, including winter coats and snowsuits, can compress in a crash and lead to increased risk of injury.  So what is a parent supposed to do?  We have several suggestions in our post: Winter Coats and Car Seat Don’t Mix – #CarSeatSafety, but today I would like to share with you the Road Coat from One Kid.  The Road Coat is a down jacket that is rated to -10 F, so it is great for a winter coat, but it is also safe when worn properly in a car seat.

Naomi is all bundled up in her jacket.

The outer layer unzips allowing you to place the car seat harness under the bulk of the coat.

Velcro at the collar reduces even more bulk at the neck.

The upper part of the inner coat is made of non-slip material so the chest clip and harness is less prone to moving around.

The red lines indicate where the bottom of the chest clip should go, aiding you with proper chest clip placement.

One Kid® branded products are warranted to the original owner against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship for the lifetime of the product.

I absolutely LOVE her coat.  It was really easy to use in the car seat, especially compared to the capes that we previously have owned.  Another plus is that the coat remains on the child during the whole process and there isn’t a lot of fidgeting with the materials to get the harness buckled properly.  Finally, the outer layer of the coat can be unzipped in transit, so if your child gets warm, it can be opened a bit.
