Swim Club and Swim Team at Aqua-Tots Swim Schools of Michigan – Sponsored Post

Do you have a child who is already a great swimmer?  Are you looking for a venue to refine their strokes, increase their stamina and encourage faster swimming?  Swim Club at Aqua-Tots may be the perfect fit for your child.

What is Swim Club?

In Swim Club students meet once a week to hone their swimming skills.  Coaches work with the students and encourage them in this positive swimming environment.  Coaches provide feedback with in-water and on-deck corrections to help the students develop their technique further.  The entire pool is reserved for swim club so the members can swim the whole length of the pool to improve their endurance while working on technique and proficiency.

What is Swim Team?

Swim Team members are the members of the Swim Club who choose to participate in the quarterly swim meets which are held between the multiple Aqua-Tots schools in Michigan. The meets are held at off-site pools that allow the students to experience proper competitive swimming which includes racing dives off of starting blocks and a full 25-yard long pool. At each meet, Swim Team Members have their times recorded and given to them for personal growth and First, Second, and Third Place ribbons are awarded to the swimmers who gain the fastest times in each event. Additionally, before each Swim Meet, they hold a starts clinic to introduce competitive starts, and teach the children how to properly complete a diving start because the shallow water at the Aqua-Tots pools does not allow for safe diving.

Who Can Join Swim Club?

Swimmers must receive approval from one of the Swim Club coaches to join. They look for proficiency in the four competitive strokes (Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Freestyle) and proper Flip Turns and Open Turns according to the corresponding strokes. Students that need to stop and start frequently run the risk of causing collisions with other students, so proficiency is a requirement in place for safety measures. Aqua-Tots Swim Club coaches also look for endurance. While students will increase their endurance with practice, a base level is necessary to keep up with the distances that are required for the drills.

How is different from level 8?

The biggest difference between the leveled classes and Swim Club is the structure of the classes themselves.  In the leveled classes all of the skills are taught each class teaching through repetition, whereas in the Swim Club focuses on a different skill each week which then culminates with the quarterly swim meet. Aqua-Tots Level 8 classes focus on proficiency in the competitive strokes as well as the sidestroke, which is considered a safety stroke. Swim Club focuses on the competitive strokes with additional classes focusing on races, endurance, conditioning, and even water polo.

More about the classes:

Swim Club classes take place several days each week for one hour. Classes are designated as Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced based on ability so swimmers are able to compete with other students of equal ability and as a safety precaution to avoid collisions. Swimmers can attend classes one day per week for one hour for $98/month* or two days per week for $189/month*.  There are no additional fees to participate in the swim meets which occur at a variety of off-site facilities.  The times and dates of the meets will vary based on the availability of the facility and families that are participating.

*prices listed above are as of 7/28/17 and are subject to change without notice.
