If you have little ones who love all things aviation, or if you are just looking for some place different to visit, then the Yankee Air Museum in Belleville fits the bill.
The museum features all kinds of fun activities for children, including a Five Simple Machines in Aviation STEM-focused exhibit, an exploration station with a Boeing 747 interior display as well as driving airplane simulation, with an LCD monitor and joystick.
The museum also hosts camps and other events, like the Thunder Over Michigan Airshow in August. You can also book a ride on one of the museum’s five historic aircraft, from May-October.

About Yankee Air Museum
The museum has been around since 1981 in Belleville, Mich. and experienced a fire in 2004 that destroyed a building. It reopened in 2010 and has been growing ever since. The museum features a dozen static aircraft, five historic flying aircraft and new exhibits open annually. It is also home to an air show and other community events.
Hours and Location
The Yankee Air Museum is open year-round, but might be closed or have reduced hours due to holidays and special events. Generally, the museum is open 10 a.m. until 4 p.m Tuesday-Saturday. Hours on Sunday are from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.
The museum is located at 47884 D. Street in Belleville at Willow Run Airport. The airport is located south of Ecorse Road and also west of Belleville Road. The museum is easily accessible from both I94 and I275.
Parking is available in front of the museum and there are restrooms inside.
Yankee Air Museum Admission
Tickets for museum members are free. Online general admission tickets for adults are $12; $8 for seniors 60+ and veterans/military; $8 for children ages 3 -12. Children 3 and under are free. However, at the door pricing is available for an additional $3. Group rates are available for groups of 15 or more for $8/person but each group needs to schedule in advance for the price.
There is something for everyone at the museum. Guests can learn about the contributions of “Rosie the Riveters” during World War II at the Ford Willow Run B-24 Bomber Plant. Or dive into the history of Col. Doug Roach who flew with the USAF Thunderbirds. You can also climb into a KC-135 cockpit. Children will enjoy the exploration station which is loaded with fun hands-on activities such as MagFormers, Imagination Playground Blocks and even a replica of the inside of a Boeing 747. Finally guests can explore how the five simple machines are used within an airplane.
