Benefits of Multiple Weekly Swim Classes

With Six Metro Detroit Locations to serve you in Canton, Novi, Sterling Heights, Troy, Auburn Hills and Farmington Hills.

We have been swimming with Aqua-Tots for a few years now.  We started with just one lesson per week for Rosa and since then we have moved her up to two sessions per week.  But are the extra lessons really worth it?  Yes!  And then some!

1. More Time in the Pool = More Benefits from Swimming

Swimming multiple times per week increases the benefits of swimming, including physical, social and psychological benefits.  Swimming provides students with a full body workout, a focused and productive avenue to release built-up energy, and helps to develop a positive self-image.
Plus each lesson works towards safe swimming, safe boundaries, and breath control, which all reduce the risk of drowning.

2. Twice the Fun

Meeting up with peers, having two great teachers, two days to look forward to a fun activity per week.  Multiple lessons are a great way to chase away the winter blues and give your children and you a chance to get out of the house.  As an added bonus, swimming multiple times a week also reduces stress between classes for those who are just starting out and nervous about swimming.  Having two different instructors gives students the opportunity to benefit from the expertise of both instructors.

3. Practice Makes Perfect

Learning to swim is just like any other physical skill, the more you practice the more opportunities you have to get better and make progress.  Having classes multiple times a week allows for students to repeat the skills over and over again.  Instructors provide guidance and consistent feedback that allows students to correct technique.

4. Muscle Memory

Participating in classes multiple times per week keeps the momentum going, so students have less time in between to forget what they learned last time they are in the pool.  Muscle memory is really the key to the increased benefits of swimming often.  With less time in between lessons, students have less time to potentially forget what they learned last time.  So if the instructor is working on a kick technique, the student is quicker to remember what they learned last time they were in the pool and less likely to revert to the incorrect technique they were using before.  The goal is to repeat the technique over and over until your body remembers how to move without even thinking about it.  (It's sort of like riding a bike.)

5.  Reaching Your Goals

Whether your child is a beginner acclimating to the water, working toward independent swimming or an advanced swimmer looking to improve their technique, multiple weekly classes are key to making progress and reaching goals in an efficient manner.
"At Aqua-Tots you can swim as much or as little as you'd like from one day all the way up to seven. Our curriculum is designed to work best at 2 or 3 days a week, which is why that is what we recommend. Swimming multiple days increases muscle memory, while more repetition with less downtime in between classes allows your child to retain the information faster and build new skills onto the ones they've mastered, allowing them to progress quicker in our program."
