3 Ways to Make Your Home Office a More Productive Place

It’s no secret the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way many of us work. About two-thirds of millennial employees left their jobs in 2020 and, according to Pew Research, approximately 50% of new teleworkers say they have more work flexibility compared to before the pandemic. However, greater flexibility doesn’t mean that remote work isn’t difficult. Up to 50% of parents who are teleworking find it difficult to get work done without interruptions.

That said, how can you make your home office a more productive (and fun) place to work in 2021? Here, we’ll dive into some top tips you can use to get the ball rolling.

Make Sure You’re Getting Enough Sunlight

While your first instinct might be to turn on your office light, hunker down, and get to work behind your desk, your LED office lights might not be doing you any favors. Employees who work in natural sunlight are more likely to work a full schedule and maintain a better mood. It’s understandable why what with the power of vitamin D. If you’re worried about getting too much sunlight during certain times of the day (screen glare, am I right?), try some aluminum blinds for low-maintenance window treatments.

Indulge in New Office Equipment

One of the best parts of the year, when we were kids, was Back to School season. While it may not be as fun as a parent, consider doing a little back-to-school shopping for yourself. Look into new post-its, pens, and notebooks that give your home office some personality. Many of us have been stuck inside for the past year working remotely and it’s often the little things that can bring us unexpected joy. If you have a bigger budget to work with, consider indulging in a 3D printer or a new desk.

Set Up Fun Artwork

Nobody likes to work in a dungeon. If your home office is still a little precariously created since you set it up at the beginning of the pandemic, consider making yourself more at home and setting up inspirational, colorful, and fun pieces of artwork around your space. Adding color, especially shades of yellow and green and other happy colors, can do a lot for your mental well-being.

It can be challenging to stay productive in a home office, but by following the tips above, you can hopefully find a little more joy in your work while you’re working from home.
