Too Cold for the Zoo?

See a Polar Bear up close!!!
Well, I haven't done it this year, but I have visited the Zoo in the past during the winter months.  According to the Detroit Zoo website, the hours of operation are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. until March.

Ring of Life Arctic Exhibit
Well, you might be asking yourself, isn't it too cold?  And you might be right, but if you can get out on warmer winter day most of the animals will be on display.  If it is too cold outside, the Wildlife Interpretive Gallery, Free Flight Aviary, Reptile House, Amphibiville, River Otters, Penguinarium, Ford Education Center, Wild Adventure, Great Apes, Meerkat Digs and Ring of Life are all indoor attractions that can keep you busy for the whole day.

In addition to many of the animal exhibits, the Arctic Food Court and the Zoofari Market are open all year.

The Zoo also has a lot of fun activities going on this winter like:
Wild Winter Inuit Adventure - January 8th and 9th
Wild Winter African Adventure - February 12th and 13
and Wild Winter Safari Social - March 12th and 13th
For more info check out the Winter Weekends Page.

If you aren't a member, I highly recommend considering a membership.  The zoo has a ton of great programs throughout the year that are well worth the investment.  Plus, with a membership, you don't feel the pressure of having to do the whole zoo each time you visit.  This is especially helpful when you have little ones who nap in the middle of the day.  So today you visit the butterflies, and next time you see the bears.

Who knows, maybe I will see you at the Zoo this winter.  Have fun and keep warm!!!
