Detroit Kid City - Southfield

A new indoor play space has opened in Southfield.  Detroit Kid City is located just north of 12 Mile Road on the West side of Greenfield.  The location is easy to find and has ample parking behind the building.

Detroit Kid City is set up with many different building themed rooms for young children to explore and allows their imagination to roam in a space where dramatic play is king.  A barber shop, pizzeria, market, school house, bank and many other areas are loaded with tools of the trade that encourage children to pretend and be creative.

Art supplies are on hand for children to allow them to create art projects, color a picture and so much more.  The day we attended supplies were set out for the children to create rainbows.

In the center of the building is a small area designed for younger guests.  Infants and young toddlers can enjoy exploring the many toys in this enclosed area.

Finally, if you need a break from playing a story time area provides a great place to sit back and relax with a good book.  Benches and picnic tables are available for parents and children to rest.  Detroit Kid City also has a cafe which serves great coffee and a nice selection of Michigan made snacks.

There were two employees there who cleaned up periodically to keep the place looking neat.  Laura, the owner, spent most of her time interacting with the children, cleaning and facilitating play.  Detroit Kid City is a great place for young children to explore and pretend.

Metro Detroit Mommy Writer:

  1. Your review was very helpful. What do you think the appropriate age-range is for Detroit Kid City? I am wondering whether it would be a good place for a birthday party for my daughter's first grade class(6-7 year olds), or is it more appropriate for younger kids?

    1. I think they would love it there. There is a ton to do. I'm sure they have special things for birthdays too. Depending on the child, I would say they cater up to about age 10 or so, especially if they are girls. I would check it out before you commit though, just to be sure:)

  2. Great write-up, MDM! Both my girls LOVED it when we visited there!
