Imaginosity Discovery Center

Imaginosity Discovery Center, an emerging fully-interactive combination of a children's museum and science center, is searching for the best young logo design artist in Michigan. The group, comprised of Metro Detroit community members, is holding a contest for Michigan students in K-8th grade to design, draw and color a logo for the Center to use for their website, signage and souvenirs. The statewide contest began on May 20th and was announced through online channels to all public libraries' youth departments across the State. There will be Detroit-based celebrity judges and an online vote to help decide the winner.
The Discovery Center, which is currently being planned for opening in Detroit in 2016, will be a combination of exhibits and activities of S.T.E.M.M. (Math & Manufacturing), the Arts, The World, and The Body, The center will take a "whole child" approach to learning in a "hands-on, minds-on" fashion geared to children twelve and younger but with accessibility to all. It is a center for the young and the young-at-heart. The name, Imaginosity, is a combination of Imagination and Curiosity -- exactly what children are all about.
"We are looking for a fun, creative, and colorful design that tells the world what Imaginosity is as a children's discovery center and as an experience for children and families," says Elizabeth Cannella, founder of the group. "Imaginosity is a combination of "STEMM", the Arts, the World and the Body for the children of Michigan to learn about and enjoy. It's also about the 'sense of community' that we have. We're creating a center that represents the entire community to children, whether it is their neighborhood or across the state or across the globe. We're asking the children in our wonderful state of Michigan, who are in grades K-8, to use their imaginations to design the best logo for us. We want them to help contribute to the creation and future of Imaginosity. We have a Youth Advisory Committee for the Discovery Center. We call them our 'Think Tank.' This hardworking group has children as young as 9-years-old helping us to design and plan our center and our exhibits. It just naturally makes sense to have children help us design our logo for Imaginosity as well. Some of our Detroit celebrities in the news media, the music industry, artists and authors will help us narrow the selection down. We will then take the top 10 designs of each grade category and give the public a chance to vote online on facebook by liking their favorite. There are great prizes to be won for our top three finalists. The winning logo submission will win a brand new 'nook HD and a membership to our center, including VIP treatment at our Opening Gala!'"

The contest started May 20th and runs until July 31st, 2013. Submissions can be hand-drawn and colored or created on a computer. They must be submitted electronically along with a signed permission form from the child's legal guardian. The winning design will be used for the center's signage, website and souvenirs. All submissions will be kept by Imaginosity and used to create a collage that will hang in the Discovery Center when it opens. Celebrity judging will occur in early August with the online voting happening throughout the month of August. The winner will be announced just as the new school year begins in September. More information, including contest details, rules, and the required guardian permission form, can found on the Imaginosity website at imaginositydetroit.org.
