So I am a couple months into my marathon training, my feet are definitely getting a work out each day and can use a bit of pampering.  When I heard about foot reflexology through Nature's Wisdom in St. Clair Shores, it sounded like something I would enjoy!  In case you are like myself who didn't know a whole lot about the procedure, here is what it is:

Reflexology is a non-intrusive complementary health therapy, based on the theory that different points on the feet correspond with different areas of the body due to the large number of nerve ending located there-over 7,000. By applying pressure to these areas with the fingers and thumb, a reflexologist aims to support overall well being by reducing stress promoting relaxation and homeostasis (the natural balance of the body).

Reflexology is a therapy which can be received by anyone at any age, from newborn babies to those receiving end of life care, and everyone in between. However, there may occasionally be times when it is not suitable to provide a treatment, such as in the case of an injury, wound. Modified treatment is required in the event that the client is pregnant.

I wasn't sure what to expect never having reflexology done before, but it was certainly a very pleasurable and relaxing experience!  The room is designed similar to a quiet room you'd see at a massage therapist's office.  The bed is also similar, with the option for light heat, which is one of my favorite parts.  60 minutes long, my feet and toes were massaged, rubbed, maneuvered and left feeling relaxed and refreshed.  Erica worked one foot at a time and at the end applied some essential oils to my poor dry feet.  I "awoke" feeling de-stressed and pampered.

Natures Wisdom is owned and operated by Erica Bretz and is located in this quaint building dating back to the late 1800's.  She uses a traditional naturopathic approach to  health and wellness.  By utilizing natural modalities such as nutrition, herbs, homeopathy, essential oils and also considering the mind-body connection, the aim is to help educate you on how to reclaim ownership of your well-being.  In talking with Erica, she is very knowledgeable in her field and approach as I was asking her some general health related questions.

There are many Services available at Nature's Wisdom, including: Wellness Consultations, Reflexology, Raindrop Essential Oil Technique, Lymph Drain Aromatherapy Technique, and Emotional Release w/ Essential Oils.  Erica has a B.S. and is a Traditional Naturopathic Practitioner, educated at the Naturopathic Institute in Mt. Pleasant, where she continues to take classes.

Just outside the office is the Remedy Room which is stocked with high quality natural remedies for sale, including vitamins, herbs, flower essences, homeopathic remedies, essential oils, and more.  The Remedy Room is open Tuesday from 11AM-3:30 PM, and most Fridays/Saturdays from 2PM-6PM.
Essential oils are available by the drop, pre-blended with carrier oil or water, or custom blended to your requirements. Available in spray, rollerball, or dropper bottles. Prices vary by oil.

Overall I very much enjoyed the reflexology session and plan to be back.  Erica's work on my feet was done with just the right pressure and technique; my feet are still "singing" so to speak.  I think this would be something beneficial for anyone who is a runner, walker, dancer, biker, or anyone who works on their feet for long hours.

  1. The reflexology sounds great. I have been having a lot of foot pain lately and maybe this service would help!

  2. What a wonderful experience this would be. As a busy personal trainer, conditioning coach and mom my feet could really use some TLC.

  3. Foot massager machine is the first thing that we need after getting up in the morning and also the last thing that we need before going to bed. To pass a tiring day the preparation starts with foot massager and at end of the day to get relief we need it too. foot massage machine
