Belle Isle Beach: A Great Place for Summer Fun

Belle Isle Beach is a great place to cool off and enjoy time with your family.  The beach is free with park admission (which requires vehicles to have an annual Michigan State Parks Recreation Passport).  Belle Isle Park is a 982-acre island park in Detroit which is surrounded by the Detroit River.  With spectacular views of Detroit to the North and Canada to the south.

The Belle Isle Beach is located at 7845 Riverbank Drive and is open Memorial Day through Labor Day from 5 am to 10 pm.  Nearby the beach are changing rooms and restrooms in the Belle Isle Beach House.  Quite often various food trucks will line up nearby so beachgoers can enjoy a quick snack, refreshing drinks or even a meal.  Parking is super close (but limited).

There is a big tree which offers limited shade.  The beach offers a nice zero-depth entry with a gradual depth increase and gentle waves.

The kids enjoyed splashing in the cool waters and playing in the sand.  I should mention that we did find a couple of pieces of broken glass and a little metal rod in the sand, but generally, we found the beach to be pretty clean.
