Ganbaru Detroit Ninja Gym Programs

Ganbaru is a Japanese word that roughly translates “to persevere on tenaciously through tough times”. However it is often translated to doing more than one’s best. I cannot think of a more apropos name for this training facility and all the program entails. In addition to the physical training, students learn to commit oneself fully to a task and endure adversity without surrendering.

This facility offers a wide variety of programs to the community including youth and adult ninja classes, open gym times, birthday parties and also camps. The parkour section of the gym includes a wide variety of obstacles for guests to master. Balance beams, wall barriers, as well as blocks are available. Some of the ninja training elements include a salmon wall, rings, zip line, warped wall together with a rock wall.

Program Director and Head Instructor Elija Sansom brings experience, knowledge as well as patience and passion. In addition to competing in two seasons of American Ninja Warrior and testing obstacles on a third season, Elija earned a Master’s degree from Oakland University in Physical Therapy. He is also a USA Parkour certified parkour instructor.

Elija is simply amazing! He is patient and has a positive attitude that inspires those around him to do and be the best they can be. Elija genuinely cares about the people around him, including his staff, students and also the guests. He has an innate ability to focus on opportunities for success in challenges that face gym guests. Based on our experience touring the gym, I would highly recommend this facility and program for you and your family.

Youth Ninja

Ganbaru offers several different weekly ninja program for children ages five through fifteen. Classes are divided based on age and ability. The focus of the program is to build a child’s ability to overcome obstacles in the gym. Student will also develop the confidence it takes to apply those skills and mentality to all challenges in the real world. Students will develop their skills by working on ninja, parkour and rock climbing. Another essential part of the class is character development, teaching children to be responsible for their actions and attitude.

Teen and Adult Classes

Students ages thirteen and older can develop their physical fitness during weekly sessions.  During the sessions participants will develop increased flexibility. They will also work on upper body and lower body strength, as well as finger and toe strength. Other skills include static and dynamic balance, speed, and agility.

Open Gym

Children ages six and older can enjoy a one hour session in the gym. Work on a specific skill or try out the gym for the first time. You can also simply drop in and have some fun. Visitors can explore the ninja warrior obstacles, parkour as well a the rock walls. Sessions are $20 per child and run most Saturdays. If you are thinking about dropping it, it is best to pre-register since they limit participants to ensure social distancing.
