LGBT Pride- Ann Arbor OUTfest

Even though many parades, parties and events celebrating diversity took place during PRIDE Month in June, there are still opportunities to show your LGBTQ pride and be an outspoken ally this summer.

For the 23rd year, Jim Toy Community Center is hosting Ann Arbor’s OUTfest and Family Pride Picnic this weekend, August 4th-6th. This annual pride event is a celebration of the vibrant and diverse Southeast Michigan LGBTQ community and their allies. Everyone is welcome, including families of all shapes and sizes. All events (except the Family Picnic on Sunday) will take place in or around the community center at 319 Braun Court, Ann Arbor, in the Kerrytown District.

This year, OUTfest kicks off at 9pm on Friday, August 4th with an outdoor movie, Hairspray.

The family friendly events continue on Saturday with face painters, a bounce house and drag queen story time. There will also be drag performances, a poetry slam, belly dancers, exhibits, vendors, yoga, and more!

For this weekend's events, my YouTube-loving family and I have opted to stay at a hotel in Ann Arbor so we don’t miss headliner Todrick Hall.

We also want to be sure to be well rested for day 3 of OUTfest which includes a family picnic at Wheeler Park from 12-4pm on Sunday, August 6th. The park contains a playground, restroom building with water fountain, a walking/running track, basketball court, plaza with benches, picnic shelter with picnic tables and grills, an open field area, and an asphalt walk connection to all of the activities. Street parking is available.

We missed the picnic last year but we attended in 2015 and had a blast, enjoying the food, friends, and fun. We played games, watched a fabulous (and family friendly) drag show, ate delicious food and visited with like minded families and friends. It was a beautiful celebration of love.
