Wayne County Parks Transforms Nankin Mills Park into a Mud Pit for the 30th Annual Mud Day

It’s the one day of the year that parents give their children permission to get messy in mud

WESTLAND, MI – Wayne County Parks will transform Nankin Mills Park into a 75 feet by 150 feet mud pit. Children ages 12 and younger will have the opportunity to get dirty in the messiest playground in southeast Michigan. Participants can charge into the pit and have free range of the mud on Tuesday, July 11 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

“I encourage families to come out and get messy with us on Mud Day,” said Beverly Watts, Director of the Department of Public Services. “I can’t think of another time when parents cheer on their children to have a good time in the mud. It really is a great time for those in the mud and for those watching.”

Thousands of children will be separated into two age groups: ages 4 and younger and ages 5-12. Children can also participate in the mud limbo and relay races. The 2017 King and Queen will be crowned after the games have concluded.

The Western Wayne Hazmat Team will be onsite to rinse children off at the end of the event. Parents are encouraged to bring towels. Plastic bags will be provided for soiled clothing.

Nankin Mills Park is located at 33275 Hines Drive in Westland. This is a free event.
