The purpose of this session is to explore skills that parents can use, in partnership with schools, to help children thrive. This session will also engage kids in self-advocacy strategies. Topics for this session include: understanding disability, knowing your school district, knowing your rights and responsibilities, organizing your paperwork to support clear and effective communication, understanding the special education process, and knowing how to resolve disagreements.

This workshop is for families of students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) who are in middle school or high school. We will provide you with information and resources to start planning for the future now. We’ll look closely at 
* Educational Development Plan (EDP) 
* Graduation standards 
* Diploma vs Certificate of Completion 
* Transition page of the IEP 
* Rights and responsibilities 
Learn how high school classes and the school environment can develop important skills and build pre-employment knowledge.

Amber is the proud mother to four beautiful children, Damian (27), Rosaleigh (14), Carlyn (11), and Naomi (8). Her family also includes four cats. She loves being a stay-at-home mom and feels blessed to be able to care for her children full-time and provide them with so many opportunities through Metro Detroit Mommy. In addition to Metro Detroit Mommy, Amber has a passion for hosting karaoke with Malibu Entertainment.  She enjoys the metro Detroit nightlife especially, singing, dancing and meeting new people.
