Winter Is Here, So Here’s A Little Exercise Motivation

Everyone knows that exercising is supposed to be healthy and good for you; it tones your muscles, keeps your body working as it’s supposed to, and generally is great for overall health. But there are a few hidden benefits of exercise that you might not actually know about on top of generally being great for your wellbeing. And since every busy mom knows how hard it can be to exercise during the winter, you may need a little extra motivation.

Here are some of the most surprising benefits of exercise and fitness that you can make use of next time you schedule your workout or trip to the gym.

Healthier Skin:

When you work out, particularly with aerobic exercise, you increase the amount of blood flow to the skin. This can help prevent a wide variety of skin problems, including even healing injuries. Increased blood flow means more oxygen and nutrients reach problem areas, helping any cuts or wounds you may have heal more quickly. Next time you’re looking to heal up that unsightly scab faster, try a bit of cardio.

Additionally, working out regularly can help keep acne at bay. The average person has two to four million sweat glands working as the body’s coolant system to protect it from overheating. When you exercise, these sweat glands work to keep your skin cool, clean, and healthy. Sweating can open up the pores and contribute to overall healthier skin; just make sure to wash up after your workout.

Stress Management:

Exercising releases a series of neurochemicals, including serotonin and GABA, that can affect your overall mood and emotional state. According to a new study from Princeton University, exercise appears to change the chemistry of the brain by causing the release of GABA, a neurotransmitter that helps quiet brain activity and minimizes anxiety.

Weight management:

While many people see exercise as a means of losing weight, it can actually be a useful tool regardless of your weight loss goals. In a recent study, obese-but-fit people had 44% lower pulse rates, 37% better heart function and 43% lower body fat than those who were obese and unfit. Regardless of your end goal with exercise, taking time to be active can be incredibly helpful with maintaining your overall health.

Pain management:

By strengthening muscles throughout the body, exercise can act as an incredibly effective form of pain management. Four in 10 people try to exercise to relieve lower back pain. Next time you’re feeling a bit stiff or sore, try some light exercise to help with pain relief.

Exercise has a wide variety of benefits for all people of all ages. What exercise benefit are you most looking forward to experiencing?
