Thorn Park in Brownstown

Conveniently located at the corner of Telegraph and King road in Brownstown, Thorn Park is a family-friendly adventure for children of all ages! There are clean, air-conditioned bathrooms on site as well as lockers to store bags you may not want to carry around.
As you pass by the Brownstown Community center, you’ll stroll along wide paved pathways that lead you to the many outdoor attractions at Thorn Park. First, you will find Safety Town. This child-size village has a bike path with many stops sponsored by community partnerships.
Next you’ll find the seasonal splash pad with many types of water play in store for summer months. There is an additional charge for splash pad entry. More information can be found here.
Just beyond the splash pad, a toddler size playscape stands surrounded by soft and safe ground covering.
Swings for children of varying abilities are also available for playtime excitement.
Enter the sandbox at your own risk! During our visit, a few neighborhood pets mistook the sand for a perfect potty spot...yuck! Divert your little one’s attention from the sand and to a larger playscape for ages 5 and up. My toddler got brave enough to try this space and since there weren’t any older kids using it at the time,  I encouraged his curiosity. He made it across a moving bridge and balancing rope with just a little help from mom, and the proud grin on his face, once he did, was worth all my worry!
As we exited the park, we noticed this “little free library.”  The Brownstown community really knows how to meet the needs of visitors with any interest!  There were friendly teenage staff throughout the park cleaning up trash and caring for the natural grounds as well. Thorn Park is very close to I-75 and there’s even a drive-through Starbucks less than 5 minutes away at the corner of West and Allen rd. Be sure to add this park to your summertime bucket list if you’re in the downriver area!
