Summer Bucket List Ideas In Michigan

Everyone is always raving about summer bucket lists, and I am sharing some Summer Bucket List Ideas In Michigan to help you out this summer.  These aren’t the typical activities, but fun destinations everyone should visit with their family this year.

Summer Bucket List Ideas

In Michigan

Kalamazoo Air Zoo: This museum in Kalamazoo is the perfect place to take your family members that love airplanes and flight.  Not only is there tons of history in this museum, but you’ll find tons of special exhibits that rotate year round.  This summer, you may even find special summer camps for your kids to attend.

Traverse City and the Mission Peninsula:  While there are specific things in this region you might enjoy, I have to include the entire area.  There are tons of beautiful trails to hike, beaches to visit, and my favorite, great foodie hotspots.  Plus, you can take the time to visit farms along the way to see how the local farm to table movement works.
Michigan’s Adventure Theme Park: Outside Muskegon and near Lake Michigan, you’ll find this great amusement park that has something for everyone in the family.  Whether you prefer to lounge in the water or head over to the crazy and thrill ride roller coasters, this is a fun way to spend a day.  Day passes and seasons passes available.
The Henry Ford Museum: The history of Henry Ford includes so much about the vehicle industry, but also a history lesson on Michigan and Detroit.  This museum in Detroit is a family favorite that will be a perfect destination on your summer bucket list this year.
Mackinac Island: Between the upper and lower peninsula of Michigan is the beautiful tourist destination of Mackinac Island.  Take a ferry ride to the island and leave your car and modern trappings behind.  This is a great adventurers day away that the whole family will love to enjoy together.
Cherry Blossom Festival in Traverse City: If you love cherries, then you already know that Traverse City is the best place to visit.  The festival is a great way to explore and learn more about cherries, their history in the region, and have fun as a family!
Michigan History Museum:  Visit the state capital of Lansing and learn more about how the state began.  This is a great place to learn about the history of Michigan while also having fun with your family.
Michigan Iron Industry Museum: If you are looking to learn more about the iron industry, or just another little bit of history in Michigan, this is a fun little place to visit in the upper peninsula of the state.  This ties in perfectly with homeschoolers summer education, as well as a way to spend time while visiting the UP.
Windmill Island:  Holland is a quaint village town that everyone in your family will love visiting.  The Windmill Island is a beautiful place to step back in time and across the water to a traditional village atmosphere.  Kids will love this, as will parents.  While in Holland, make sure to visit some of the great local restaurants and beautiful downtown area.
Dossin Great Lakes Museum: The history of the Great Lakes is something we learn a little of in school, but this museum is a great place to explore and learn the full history.  Just another great location in the city of Detroit that gives you and your family a new view of the history of our state.
Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory: If you are visiting Detroit, this is a great place to stop by.  The entire Belle Isle Park is amazing, but the conservatory is a science lovers dream come true.  Excellent for learning and education while also seeing a beautiful part of our beloved Detroit.
Frankenmuth:  Located in the little village town of Frankenmuth is more than just a cool name.  This Bavarian town is a true tourist destination.  From the largest Christmas store you’ve ever seen to the classic Bavarian beer and cuisine, you’ll love visiting.  Check out the main street and take a walk around the city visiting shops, trying out great snacks, and having fun with your family.
Summer bucket lists are all the rage, but this year you can easily enjoy a more local destination minded bucket list.  Plan day trips, or a weekend getaway to really enjoy the beauty our state of Michigan has to offer.
